Just a few additional notes
One has to be careful when drawing conclusions from intersquad scrimmages, but dang, I feel good about this team.
Some of this has already been posted by Techdady and RJHokie, but I’ll quickly review the scorebook, but want to emphasize this is simply a snapshot of one night.
Game one was highlighted by a nice performance by Freshman Ivy Rosenberry, who actually shutout the maroon team, limiting them to 8 hits. Reportedly, she has hit 69 on the radar gun this fall, and although she only registered 2 strikeouts, she got a ton of ground balls.
Keely Rochard pitched the second game and only gave up 4 hits, striking out 8. The two runs off of her came from the Orange team playing small ball. Both runs were scored by Cameron Fagan, who stole 2 bases in EACH game and has some nice wheels as well as a rocket arm at shortstop. She scored a total of 4 runs, getting on base with two hits and two walks.
Offensively, Mededith Slaw ended up with 3 hits, including a monster blast into the center field trees. Morgan Overaitis was 5 for 7 on the night with two doubles and a blast over the right field fence. Freshman Maija Louko hit a 3 run homer in game 2. Maddie Rountree had 3 hits on the night as well
As RJHokie mentioned, Mackenzie Osborne and Keara Napoli also pitched and I think we'll have some nice pitching depth this spring, especially if Kaylee Hewitt gets back to full strength.
The team will now begin individual workouts for the rest of the fall before starting team activities in January. Hopefully, we'll be able to watch them in action this spring as I think this team can really be special.
Let's Go Hokies!!!
